It’s exciting full of mystery and adventure with a strong independent heroine, it is hard to put down. It’s a fast-paced story line that keeps you entertained as you try to figure out who the murderers are and why.I would recommend this book to any cozy mystery fans who like Western story. It is very entertaining and I am looking forward to read the next books in the series.

It is always great to find a new author that I like through the offering of one of the books for free-and this author has me hooked on her Loveda Brown series about a single woman trying to run a hotel in the early 1900s in California. In many ways, it is a western murder mystery/romance I guess and somehow the chemistry of this situation worked well for me. I especially appreciated that it was clean and not filled with vile language or sexual escapades and balanced out with humor. Somehow the combination really worked to provide me with some good “fluff” reading. (Nothing serious, nothing especially violent, just entertaining.)

A seemingly random murder ratchets up the tension in Idyllwild as the summer heats sets in. A fast-talking salesman flips Lindley’s marriage plans on edge. A nervous chain-smoker drops in for some needed r&r. Are they really who they say they are? Can they help solve the random murder? Or will they fall in-line with a gang of train robbers who drop by to complete some unfinished business? What hidden secrets will the town have to reveal, will Loveda be able to play hero again, or will she discover more about her fellow-residents than she bargained for?I managed to set aside plenty more time to read this book than the last one and so I finished it quite a lot quicker. And that was helped along by the book as it presents a mystery right off the bat and sticks to that script a lot closer than the previous episodes.
I have to say I was a bit unsure how a seemingly typical, but random murder mystery would play out, and I had my initial misgivings, but the pacing was excellent and the tension never let up. As much as I’ve enjoyed the previous books in this series, I felt this one was the best yet.
This book delves lot deeper into the backgrounds of many important characters in the series helping to flesh out a lot about some of some characters that previously seemed to be side-players who would remain as enigmas. The ending was a bit more on the somber side as a ending was quite as happy as one would have hoped. But, I dare say the books keep getting better and better as the series goes along, and I’m looking forward to starting book 5.
