Mortuary Mysteries, Book One
Los Angeles, 1914
A body in the wall. A logbook that shouldn’t exist.
And a husband who might not be who she married.

Newlywed Hattie Deal discovers a skeleton behind the walls of the mortuary her beloved Louie just inherited. The dead man is his uncle, missing for nineteen years.
But the real mystery isn’t who killed Uncle Hiram. It’s why hidden papers list her husband’s name as Aloysius Pemberton Fortenberry.
Left alone in a house full of suspicious staff, menacing lawyers, and nosy neighbors circling the same rotten secret, Hattie unearths the late aunt’s logbook. It proves the Deal family didn’t just run a mortuary. They ran a game. And someone thinks her husband is still playing.
Armed with nothing but her pocket pistol and her wits, Hattie must solve a murder two decades old before it costs her marriage – or her life.

I loved it! — Kiki Dulaney, Beta Reader
As usual, I loved this book — even more because it’s my old working stomping ground. Well 100 years earlier but the names of the streets are very familiar and that made it especially fun for me. I get so wrapped up in the story I literally don’t put it down. I love how you don’t know the good guys from the bad guys until the end of the story.
Favorite Things — Hannah Tunnell, Beta Reader
Your chapter transitions. They are a fun variation of cliffhangers both baby & huge. And your ending/beginnings of chapters create a flow to your mystery that feels like the reader is moving through a haunted house where there’s just enough jump scares & strange clues to look at in-between. Overall it’s a great book and an easy fun ride of a read with absolutely no idea who is holding which cards until the final chapters. It reads like a nearly final draft and I’m really proud of you with how far you’ve grown as an author.
